We have all heard the old adage "a picture is worth a thousand words". This proverb is especially applicable when marketing a vacation rental property. Remember that the marketing for you vacation rental needs to help people envision what they will experience when they stay at your property. With this in mind the photos you use in your marketing brochure, website or advertising needs to create a mood, a feeling, an experience.

You can do this by not using "snapshots" of your vacation rental property. By this we mean, don't just walk through your property and fire off a bunch of photos with your digital camera. Before you start taking photos you need to stop and think. What makes my vacation rental property unique? What are the best features of the property? How can I best highlight these aspects through the use of photos?

Hightlight the best features

vacation rental photographyFor example, is the view of exterior of your property noticeably better at a particular time of day, or from a particular angle? If so, highlight that aspect when you take your exterior photos for your marketing brochure, website, or advertisement. Follow the same line of thought when taking photos of the interior features of your vacation rental property. Staging photos by setting the dinner table with dinnerware or adding a bouquet of flowers in the bedroom will make your property more appealing to your potential guests.

Charm your potential renters

vacation rental photographyRemember that your goal is to take photos of your vacation rental that will charm your potential renters while erasing any doubts. Make sure that you have good lighting. You don't want dark photos that make your property look dreary. Organize your photos as if you were walking through the property with your potential guest. Creatively adding descriptions to accompany your photos will make your marketing stand out from the typical "1BR/1BTH Oceanfront Condo" description. If you find it hard to write these types of descriptions imagine how you would describe your vacation rental to a friend who is visiting for the first time. How would you describe the exterior of the property? What aspects of the property do you most enjoy? What do you think they would like the most? What types of activities can they enjoy during their stay. Be specific in your descriptions. Tell your potential renters exactly what amenities they can enjoy and highlight nearby attractions.

Keeping these points in mind when taking photos of your vacation rental property can make the difference between your potentials guests choosing your property over the one next door.
